There’s a cost to every maybe. Sometimes, that cost is your life.
The word decide. The suffix -cide means “to kill.” That’s why we see it in words like homicide, pesticide, and suicide. It’s serious business. Life-and-death business.
And when you decide, you commit that same act. You kill off all other options.
That might sound dramatic but that’s the point. Decision isn’t neutral. It’s not a soft suggestion. It’s the moment you shut the door, lock it, and throw away the key.
And here’s the rub. If you don’t decide, life will decide for you.
The High Cost of Not Deciding
Most men don’t struggle because they lack ambition or options. They struggle because they refuse to choose. They hover in a state of maybe. Always circling, weighing, comparing, waiting for more clarity.
They think they’re being cautious. Strategic. Smart.
But what they’re really doing is delaying their life.
Undecided men drift.
They dabble.
They consume content but never commit.
They date but don’t go deep.
They take jobs they can tolerate.
They stay in relationships they don’t admire.
And they confuse motion with meaning.
They become experts at dancing on the edge of commitment.
But here’s what life doesn’t do. Wait.
There’s a Shelf Life on Everything
Everything good has an expiration date. Every open door eventually closes.
That woman you were sure would wait forever? She’s gone.
That business idea you thought about three years ago? Someone else just launched it.
That urge to pack up and live differently? Time beat you to it.
Men often think they have more time than they do. But every day that passes is a decision. Every delay is a quiet no to the thing that could’ve changed your life.
So yes, when you decide, you kill off other options.
But when you don’t decide, you kill off yourself.
The Myth of the Perfect Option
Let’s get this out of the way. There is no perfect option.
That fantasy where everything aligns: timing, finances, certainty, support? It doesn’t exist. And men waste years chasing it.
The decision that will move your life forward is almost always imperfect.
It’ll cost you comfort. It’ll cost you security.
It will raise eyebrows and test your relationships.
And that’s exactly why it’s the right one.
You don’t get to a fulfilled life by eliminating risk.
You get there by choosing which risk is worth it.
Do you risk leaving your job? Or risk dying a slow death by mediocrity?
Do you risk ending a safe but stale relationship? Or risk never knowing real intimacy?
Do you risk looking foolish for launching your dream? Or risk dying with it still inside you?
Pick your pain. Pick your poison. But for the love of your own life, pick something.
Decision Is a Muscle
You might be thinking, “But what if I’m just not good at making decisions?”
Fair. Most men aren’t. Why? Because we weren’t raised or trained to be.
We were trained to perform, to provide, and to people-please.
Not to trust our gut. Not to own a choice. Not to risk disappointing others.
But here’s the truth. Decision is a skill.
And like any skill, it strengthens with practice.
Start small.
Decide what time you wake up.
Decide what matters this week and kill off distractions.
Decide what kind of man you are, and stop outsourcing your identity to others.
Then go bigger.
Decide what you want to build.
Decide what kind of partner you want to be.
Decide what you stand for, and who you’re no longer willing to follow.
Every decision you make builds your spine.
And every one you avoid weakens it.
Courage Comes After the Decision
A lot of men are waiting to feel ready before they decide.
They want courage to show up first so they can act.
But that’s not how it works.
You decide first. You leap. And then, only then, does courage show up to meet you.
Decision is the door. Courage waits on the other side.
If you don’t decide, you don’t grow.
If you don’t grow, you don’t lead.
And if you don’t lead, you’ll follow. Forever.
The World Doesn’t Need More Hesitant Men
The world is full of men who are tired, timid, and treading water.
We don’t need more of those. We need men who decide.
Men who know what matters, even when it costs them.
Men who make the call, even when it scares them.
Men who stand up and say, “This is the life I’m living, and I’m willing to pay for it.”
Because a man who decides is a man who can be trusted.
With a mission. With a family. With his own soul.
He’s no longer a boy scanning the buffet of life looking for something easy.
He’s a man who takes the plate, eats the meal, and says thank you.
So… What’s It Gonna Be?
You’re at a crossroads.
You already know what needs to go.
You already know what you’ve been avoiding.
You already know the one decision that could change everything.
I’m not here to make that decision for you. I’m here to remind you that you have to make it.
And not someday. Not when the stars align. Now.
Because every day you delay is a day you’ll never get back.
And the life you want?
It’s not found in the options.
It’s found in the decision.
